2022 Community Music Programs

In 2022, Modulations Therapies will be providing a record number of therapeutic music programs in our community. These special programs are offered in partnership with local groups and organizations, and provide an opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to participate for free or at reduced cost. They are a great introduction to music therapy and to our team members.

One positive thing that has come from the pandemic is the ability to offer our programs online. Living in a rural state with very few music therapists, this means we can reach many more people, particularly during difficult winter months. While we very much miss our in-person groups (and hope to offer some this summer), the response to our online community programs has been amazing.

Our upcoming online programs include:

Young at Heart: Music, Movement and Memory Group

Offered in partnership with the Bangor YMCA

Mondays from 12-12:45pm, February 7th - May 2nd

Research suggests that engaging in music is one of the best things you can do for your brain! Designed for people with neurologic disorders such as dementia and Parkinson's, this class uses live music experiences to stimulate your mind and get your body moving. No musical experience is necessary.

Tuning In: Stress Management Group

Offered in partnership with the Bangor YMCA

Wednesdays from 12-12:45, February 16th - March 9th

This 4-week Stress Management Group is designed for Care Partners of adults living with chronic illness and/or facing stress management challenges. During these 4 weeks, we will provide you with the tools you’ll need in order to practice a variety of music-based wellness and stress management techniques. Mindfulness, imagery, music making and listening, and cognitive techniques will be explored.

TGIF Music with Dan

Offered in partnership with the Bangor Public Library

Monthly on the last Friday of the month

This fun-filled music program for adults with Intellectual Disabilities offers opportunities to express and connect through music. Sessions will be hybrid, with a cap of 10 people onsite, and others welcome to join over Zoom. Please contact Karen Corbett at kcorbett@bangorpubliclibrary.org or call 947-8336 ext. 109 to register.

Kids Rock Family Music Program

Offered in partnership with the Ellsworth Public Library

Wednesdays from 10:30-11:00am, ongoing

The Ellsworth Public Library and Modulations Therapies are partnering to offer a free family music group this Winter. We will sing, dance, explore sounds, and have lots of fun while working on early literacy and childhood development. The class is geared towards kids ages 3-6, but all ages and abilities are welcome!

Music Buddies Intergenerational Group

Offered in partnership with Kids Corner Childcare Center, the Acadia Community Foundation, and Mount Desert Nursery School. Funded in part by the Maine Arts Commission.

Wednesdays from 9:15-9:45am and 10-10:30am, ongoing

Our popular intergenerational music groups are now online! Seniors from our community and family members from across the globe are welcome to join us as we Zoom with students from a local pre-school. We share new and familiar songs, work together to explore sounds and movements, use our imaginations, and learn new things. To register, contact Carla at Carla@ModulationsTherapies.com

Please join us for one (or more) of these exciting programs, and learn how more music can make your life better!
